Last quarter, the Habitat for Humanity ReStore presented Habitat for Humanity Portland/Metro East with a very special surprise during a staff meeting — a check for $81,298, the highest quarterly profits to date! And similar checks were also delivered to the Willamette West and Vancouver Habitat affiliates, marking a huge milestone for the retail stores. What began as one small store open a few days a week has blossomed into a powerhouse retail operation.
Recently, the ReStore surpassed raising $3 million dollars for Habitat – those funds helped build a lot of homes over the years, and the amount of funding contributed by the ReStore continues to grow. Back in the early days, the money raised by the ReStore for an entire year was less than what we receive now in one quarter. With locations in Portland, Beaverton and Vancouver, Habitat’s ReStores sell a remarkable variety of value-priced home improvement materials. All the merchandise, both new and used, is donated by businesses and homeowners. Stock changes daily, and the ReStore’s loyal shoppers know they can find good bargains on unique merchandise. They also know that when they shop at the ReStore, they support Habitat’s mission – and that keeps them coming back.
The ReStore offers free pickups for large items and volume donations. You can learn more about the items they accept in donation and request a pick up at pdxrestore.org/donate. The ReStore also offers a Salvage Service, removing cabinets, fixtures, appliances, doors and other items you plan to replace during a remodeling project. The ReStore’s deconstruction experts will leave your site clean and ready for the next phase of your project. Learn more about this service at pdxrestore.org/material-recovery. The ReStore is located at 10445 SE Cherry Blossom Dr. in Portland and they are open Monday through Saturday, 9 am to 5 pm. Track new items arriving in the stores on the ReStore’s Facebook page (pdxrestore). ■
