Willamette West Habitat for Humanity is dedicated to fostering home ownership and improving our community by building simple, decent, affordable housing with a neighborhood emphasis. Since 1988, we have helped 99 families in Washington County, and will complete nine new homes in 2015.
Habitat works in partnership with low-income families, volunteers, donors, and organizations to receive donated materials, volunteer labor and generous financial gifts. Qualifying families purchase habitat homes by contributing 500 hours of "Sweat Equity" building Habitat homes and a down payment. They receive a zero-percent interest rate mortgage and monthly payments structured to their income. Mortgage payments from Habitat homes go into a fund which is then recycled back in to the community building more Habitat homes.
Our focus in Washington County, on the Portland Metro Westside, includes the cities of Beaverton, Hillsboro, Tigard, and Tualatin, and in parts of Clackamas County including Lake Oswego, West Linn and Wilsonville. You can be assured that your gifts of time and resources stay in your community, helping your friends, neighbors and co-workers.
Willamette West is one of 32 Oregon affiliates and 1,700 nationwide affiliates of Habitat for Humanity International, working to help struggling families out of the circle of poverty by giving them a hand up, not a hand out.
Earth Advantage, which certifies sustainable design in Oregon and Southern Washington, named Willamette West Habitat for Humanity Low Income Builder of the Year at the 2014 Green Builder Awards on August 12th.
“In recognition of the exceptional effort and focus on high performance that our builders represent, we began the Green Home Builder of the Year Awards in 2012 to recognize those stand out builders. A team of three judges meets every year in the summer to review submissions and chose the builders that best represent Earth Advantage Residential Certification standards that year.”
Willamette West Habitat for Humanity was proud to be the very first recipient of the award in 2012, and again in 2014.
